December 2020

Thank you to all parents for making the effort to engage with the recent parent/teacher telephone interviews. We know that children do best when home and school work together. We highlighted the importance of attendance at these meetings and also had a meeting with the Education and Welfare Officer. He has asked us to reinforce the importance of not taking time off school to go on holidays as this affects your child’s learning.

We have secured Extended School’s funding for our cluster with Railway Street Nursery School and the focus is outdoor learning. We are hoping to add resources to our new outdoor woodland classroom area. Due to Covid restrictions we are unable to visit each other but we will be sharing photos and videos.

Thank you for wearing red and supporting our Poppy Appeal this year. We raised £50 for this worthy charity and we had lots of fun making wonderful poppy crafts.

All children are now using Seesaw in school as an additional learning platform. We have been putting homeworks and reading on for children to do at home. Please encourage your child to do their Seesaw homework in the afternoon and not late at night or in the morning. There will normally be an activity Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is an online platform that will also be very useful if there is a need in the future to return to remote learning.

Seesaw also has a family app which parents download to their phone and this is a communication tool which translates messages from school into the home language on the phone. We can send information and photos during the day of your child, and we think this is very helpful. We have sent links and messages to the parent phone numbers but still have parents who have not connected. Please check your messages and click the link to the Seesaw Family app. Speak to your child’s teacher if you have not yet accessed the Seesaw Family App. *You can also send the teacher messages through Seesaw Family app in your language and we will see it translated*

Our amazing Virtual Nativity was premiered on 30th November and is available to view on the school website. We think the children were brilliant and we are grateful to Play It By Ear Drama Company for putting this together. Please enjoy watching with your child and share with your friends.

We have been invited to participate in the Film Buff Challenge from Into Film and Mrs Walker organised a live launch session through zoom. We are really excited about all the movies we can watch and will be working towards our Silver Award!

On Thursday 10th December we will be watching the virtual panto Beauty and the Beast presented by the local College. The children can dress up for the day in any costumes they have – princess, superhero etc. We hope it will be lots of fun!

We will participate in Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 11th December. Children can wear their Christmas jumpers, Christmas hats, Christmas socks etc and bring £2 for Save the Children Charity.

Our Christmas party is on Thursday 17th December and we will have lots of games, photo booth and party food. Wear comfortable clothes.
